Installation, fabric, drawing, and light

At Diwali, sleep unfolded on the terrace beneath a sari of stars. Constellations were named like relatives; the border became a horizon, the tikdi shimmered, and dreams arrived before the endings of the stories. The hush that followed lingered in the fabric — a quiet continuation after the pictures stopped.
“Saree as Memory Space” grows from this moment, transforming a grandmother’s saree into a vessel of memory and belonging. The silk, woven decades ago and passed through generations, carries with it the scent of home — starch, incense, and clay. When unfolded, it releases a wave of recognition that collapses time and distance, bridging the space between India and Australia.
The installation builds an environment of stillness and light. The saree hangs like an architectural skin — translucent, breathing, and responsive to air and touch. Drawings and shadows move across its surface, extending the quiet atmospheres once held in paper into real space. Within this soft structure, memory becomes spatial: light filters through the threads, revealing how intimacy can dwell within material.
